What's New in This Release

  • New installations: Deploy controller v4.2 as a fresh install on Amazon EKS, Google GKE, or an air-gapped controller.
  • Upgrades: Supported upgrade path from v4.0 to v4.2 for EKS-based, GKE-based, and air-gapped controllers.

Controller Enhancements

Harbor Registry Adoption

The Rafay Controller image registry is being migrated from Nexus to Harbor, which offers better scalability, reliability, and image lifecycle management.

  • Container images are now hosted in Harbor; Nexus continues to host RPM packages, APT repositories, and binary downloads.
  • Supported cluster images and images required for this release are replicated to Harbor during the upgrade to ensure backward compatibility.
  • Older or previously unsupported image versions may need to be republished to Harbor before use.

Note

No user action is required for standard upgrades.

Storage Backend Migration from OpenEBS to Longhorn

For new bare-metal deployments, the default storage backend is changing from OpenEBS to Longhorn, improving long-term sustainability and addressing known security vulnerabilities.

  • New bare-metal deployments use Longhorn as the default storage class.
  • Existing OpenEBS-based deployments continue to operate without changes.
  • Migration of existing OpenEBS deployments to Longhorn is planned for a future release and will be communicated separately, with the required procedure.
